The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) on June 02, 2026, notified the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Framework for Resource Adequacy) Regulation, 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The regulation establishes a standardized framework for demand forecasting, generation resource planning, and procurement to ensure a reliable 24x7 power supply across Andhra Pradesh.
•It transitions the state toward a granular Resource Adequacy (RA) mechanism to effectively manage the grid's increasing variability from clean energy sources.
•Distribution Licensees are mandated to formulate rolling 10-year, 5-year, and 1-year resource adequacy plans utilizing scientific modelling and advanced AI/Machine Learning techniques.
•The framework outlines specific formulas and net load-based methodologies to compute the Capacity Credit of renewable, thermal, hydro, and energy storage resources.
•Licensees must optimize their procurement resource mix and demonstrate minimum contract tie-up thresholds to reliably meet state and national peak demands.
•The document establishes strict annual protocols, multi-agency data-sharing timelines, cybersecurity mandates, and penalties for non-compliance to guarantee grid resilience.
They shall come into force from June 02, 2026.
